IEEE ComSoc International Communications Quality and Reliability Workshop
13–15 September 2022 // Arlington, Virginia, USA

Welcome from the General Program Chairs

On behalf of the planning committee, we warmly welcome you to the 2022 IEEE ComSoC CQR Workshop! After two years of meeting virtually, we are excited to meet in person, while following all state, local, and federal safety procedures related to Covid-19 [1,2]. Covid-19 is an evolving situation, and we will monitor and make adjustments as needed to protect CQR participants.

Since its inception, the CQR Workshop series has served as a bridge between the academic and the industrial communities, and this year is no exception. The workshop is composed of three days, with each day having its own theme. The theme of the first day is “Assuring Access to Communications Resources.”

Here, we specifically examine 5G networks to understand their behavior in providing the quality and reliability component of CQR. The second day will focus on the evolution of 5G to the next generation, 6G. Moving ahead, about 2.9 billion people in the world have never used Internet [3] and here in the US, Internet penetration as a percentage of population stood at 91% in 2020 [4], and by some measures has improved to 92% in 2022. This, however, means that 8% of the US population face some barriers while accessing a lifeline to communications. Reflecting this asymmetry, the theme of the third day is “Connecting the Unconnected.”

The individual theme of each of the three days promise an exciting program. We also have keynotes from the industrial and government sectors, three panels composed of academics and industrial researchers investigating topical areas of interest in communications, six technical sessions presented by industry visionaries, and a three sessions of peer-reviewed novel research papers. We hope that you will have a productive time making new connections and re-invigorating existing ones.

We would like to thank each one of you attending the conference and for bringing your expertise to CQR 2022 to make this a successful event. The workshop is designed to bring together academia and industry to promote interactions between the two. On behalf of the organizing committee, we hope that the workshop fulfills its goal, and we look forward to hosting you on September 13-15, 2022!

Sincerely,
